Chasing a global bleaching event.
The Ocean Agency was the only team to chasing the global coral bleaching event since it started in late 2014, dispatching teams on a global basis to visually record it. Using specially developed cameras, we visually documented the event through unique 360-degree imagery. The imagery produced is, for the first time, revealing the true scale of a global bleaching event to the world.
Our team was there at the start in Hawaii in October 2014, and since then we've chased it all over the world including Great Barrier Reef, American Samoa, Hawaii, the Maldives, New Caledonia, Japan, and back again to the Great Barrier Reef for a second record breaking year in a row.
We were there to announce and promote the event with NOAA in September 2015 we teamed up with NOAA and Google to announce and promote and watched it become one of the biggest climate change stories in the lead up to COP21 with a media reach of 2.4 billion and a media value over $25 million. Our imagery has appeared in virtually every major news publication and the science is on an unprecedented scale.
